Davos 2026 calls for dialogue amid rising global risks, slowing growth

The 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting opened Monday in Davos, Switzerland, bringing together nearly 3,000 leaders from over 130 countries. The forum focuses on rising global risks, slowing economic growth, and rapid technological change.

The WEF’s Global Risks Report 2026 highlights geoeconomic conflict, interstate tensions, extreme weather, and misinformation as top threats. Economic risks are rising fastest, with global growth projected at 2.7% in 2026, slightly below 2025, and trade expected to slow. WEF leaders stressed the urgency of dialogue to address polarization, conflict, and shared global challenges.

Technology, including AI, quantum computing, and biotechnology, is seen as both an opportunity for growth and a potential source of social disruption. China’s economy and innovation were highlighted as major contributors to global growth and sustainable development, with experts noting its role in promoting multilateral cooperation and investment in green and digital initiatives.

Under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue,” the forum calls on countries, businesses, and NGOs to work together to navigate uncertainty, foster innovation, and advance shared prosperity.
