The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar kicked off the 2025 Chinese New Year celebrations with a grand event at Inya Lake Hotel, Yangon on January 23rd. The festival was packed with vibrant cultural performances, delicious food, and exciting activities, bringing together people from different backgrounds to share in the joy of the season.
Government officials, embassy representatives, and international guests joined members of the Chinese and Myanmar communities to celebrate this special occasion. The event featured dazzling performances, including traditional dances from both countries and the iconic lion dance, which symbolizes prosperity and good fortune.
Food lovers had plenty to enjoy, with stalls offering traditional dishes from provinces like Yunnan, Sichuan, Shandong, Guangdong, and Henan. Visitors also got a taste of China’s artistic heritage through displays of calligraphy, paintings, porcelain, guzheng music, and beautiful lacquer fans. With around 40 booths set up, the event gave everyone a chance to experience the rich and diverse traditions of China.
Adding to the excitement, China Media Group (CMG), Myanmar International Radio (MIR), and Vidya brought the celebration to a wider audience with a live stream on social media. Viewers got a closer look at the cultural showcases, delicious food, and festive atmosphere.
This year’s Chinese New Year is extra special for Myanmar, as January 29th will mark the country’s first official public holiday for the occasion.
