China’s total grain output reached 1.43 trillion jin (715 million metric tons) in 2025, according to Huang Sanwen, president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and a member of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC. He said agricultural science and technology has been key to maintaining the country’s strong grain production.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China accelerated major tech initiatives, focusing on revitalizing the seed industry and addressing shortages in agricultural machinery. In 2025, the contribution of agricultural technological progress exceeded 64 percent, with most of China’s grain, vegetables, and meat now relying on domestically developed varieties.
Huang made the remarks during a Members’ Corridor Q&A session on Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
