COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy protects infants: study

A new study by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests that women receiving an mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccination or booster during pregnancy can provide their infants with strong protection against symptomatic COVID-19 infection for at least six months after birth. The study, analyzing data from 475 infants at nine U.S. sites, found that newborns with high antibody levels at birth had greater protection from COVID-19 infection during their first six months. The findings emphasize the importance of pregnant women receiving both the COVID-19 vaccine and booster to ensure robust protection for their infants until they are eligible for vaccination.
