Delegates at the Pre-COP30 meeting in Brasilia, Brazil, agreed on the need to strengthen multilateralism ahead of the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), according to Andre Correa do Lago, Brazil’s climate and environment secretary and COP30 president.
He said there was broad consensus on the importance of climate adaptation, with support expressed by both developed and developing nations. The presence of Finance Minister Fernando Haddad underscored the economic significance of climate issues.
The preparatory talks focused on preventing disputes and keeping discussions on track. Correa do Lago added that Brazil aims for COP30 to be an inclusive summit, welcoming all countries when it takes place in Belem, in the Amazon region, this November.
