China has started the underwater construction of the main tower of the Xihoumen road-rail bridge, which connects Zhoushan City’s Jintang and Cezi islands in Zhejiang Province. This bridge is the world’s longest span road-rail bridge with both railway tracks and a highway on the same deck. The bridge deck, at 68 meters wide, is the widest sea-crossing bridge globally, providing wind resistance and stability. The main construction is expected to be completed by 2028, and it will significantly shorten travel time from Hangzhou City to Zhoushan, reducing it to about one hour.
