President Xi Jinping of China and President Joe Biden of the United States held a phone conversation, discussing various aspects of China-U.S. relations and mutual concerns.
Xi highlighted the importance of strategic perception in the relationship and emphasized the need to avoid conflict and confrontation, advocating for respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.
He outlined three guiding principles for China-U.S. relations: valuing peace, prioritizing stability, and upholding credibility. Xi also addressed issues such as Taiwan, trade tensions, and technological development.
Biden acknowledged the significance of the bilateral relationship and expressed the U.S.’s commitment to advancing cooperation while managing differences responsibly. He reassured that the U.S. does not seek a new Cold War and respects China’s development.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of communication and cooperation in various areas, including diplomacy, economics, climate response, and counternarcotics efforts. They tasked their teams to work towards implementing the vision outlined during their San Francisco meeting.
The Chinese side welcomed upcoming visits by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to further dialogue and cooperation, aiming to stabilize the relationship and address global challenges.
