President Xi Jinping met with Brunei’s Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah in Beijing on Tuesday to celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties and strengthen strategic cooperation. Xi proposed aligning China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Brunei Vision 2035, focusing on emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and the digital economy. He emphasized building a “China-Brunei community with a shared future” to provide stability in a volatile international landscape, framing the partnership as a model for equality between nations of different sizes.
The Crown Prince reaffirmed Brunei’s firm adherence to the one-China policy and praised China’s role in promoting global peace and multilateralism. Both leaders expressed a commitment to deepening the ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership to ensure regional prosperity. The meeting concluded with a mutual call to enhance people-to-people exchanges and cultural connectivity through the Global Civilization Initiative.
