Chinese premier calls for commitment to building open world economy

At the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for building an open world economy and rejecting unilateralism and protectionism.

He emphasized the need to keep global industrial and supply chains stable, and expressed support for expanding the New Development Bank. Li also urged reforms in the World Bank and IMF to better reflect the interests of developing countries.

On climate issues, Li pressed developed nations to fulfill their commitments on climate financing and technology transfer, and called for full implementation of the UN Climate Convention and the Paris Agreement, stressing shared but differentiated responsibilities.
