Chinese FM urges closer China-ASEAN cooperation to tackle challenges

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China-ASEAN cooperation has made significant progress over the past five years, with bilateral trade exceeding $1 trillion in 2025 and expanded collaboration in trade, crisis response and people-to-people exchanges. He called for greater unity to address challenges and proposed deeper cooperation in peace and development, economic resilience, digital and AI technologies, green development and people-centered initiatives. Wang also urged regional countries to resist external interference in the South China Sea and work toward finalizing a Code of Conduct as soon as possible. The meeting agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, digitalization, AI, climate change, clean energy and combating transnational crime, and adopted a joint statement on the regional impact of the Middle East situation and energy cooperation.
