Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday that the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) has grown significantly over the past decade, becoming a model for building a community with a shared future for humanity. Speaking at the reception marking the 10th anniversary of the first LMC leaders’ meeting, Wang highlighted the stronger development momentum, enhanced security cooperation, and deeper people-to-people exchanges achieved by the six member countries.
Wang called for the creation of an LMC 2.0 through closer coordination of development strategies, infrastructure connectivity, and green and innovation-driven initiatives such as digital economy, AI, and renewable energy. He emphasized cultural exchanges, youth engagement, media and think tank collaboration, and efforts to combat cross-border crimes.
China will work with the other five Mekong countries to usher in a new “golden decade” for the LMC, aiming for peace, security, prosperity, and sustainability in the region. Two reports outlining shared visions and connectivity plans for the next decade were also released at the event.
