Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the early completion of consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC) would help protect regional peace and stability and ensure the future of the region is decided by countries in the area. During a meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan in Manila, Wang said China and ASEAN countries remain committed to advancing COC talks based on the existing Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea. He also called for deeper China-Malaysia cooperation and stronger ASEAN-China relations. Mohamad said Malaysia-China and ASEAN-China ties are at their strongest level and expressed support for speeding up COC discussions to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.
