Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the international community to strengthen and revitalize the United Nations during a UN Security Council high-level meeting in New York on Tuesday.
Speaking while chairing the session, Wang said the current global situation is undergoing major and complex changes and emphasized the need for countries to unite in defending the UN system and its principles. He urged efforts to reinforce the authority of the Security Council, improve global development cooperation, and enhance the effectiveness of UN institutions.
Wang also said China would continue to support multilateralism and work toward a more balanced global governance system.
The meeting, attended by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and representatives from over 100 countries, was held under China’s rotating presidency of the Security Council for May.
