Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for reforms to improve global governance during a meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Thursday.
Wang said the United Nations should become more efficient and that reforms should strengthen, not weaken, the organization. He also stressed giving developing countries, especially African nations, a bigger voice in global affairs.
He urged countries to support multilateralism, oppose unilateral actions and power politics, and work together on issues such as artificial intelligence, cyberspace, outer space and global development.
Representatives from more than 60 countries attended the meeting, where members agreed on key points including support for international equality, UN-centered cooperation and narrowing the global development gap.
