China successfully launched four satellites for the Tianqi constellation from a commercial rocket in waters off the coast of eastern Shandong Province early Friday morning.
The CERES-1 Y7 rocket, developed by Beijing-based firm Galactic Energy, lifted off at 4:10 a.m. to deliver the satellites into their preset low-Earth orbits. This mission marks the 23rd flight for the CERES-1, a solid-propellant vehicle designed for cost-effective micro-satellite deployment.
The newly launched satellites will expand the Tianqi constellation, China’s first low-Earth orbit Internet of Things (IoT) data network. The system provides global coverage for a wide range of industries, including agriculture, emergency response, and smart city infrastructure, by offering consumer-grade data services across land, sea, and air.
