Chinese researchers have developed a new type of AI chip based on phase-change memristors that can perform brain-related computing tasks much faster than current advanced GPUs. The chip, published in the journal Science, reduces computation delay to just 2.12 milliseconds and is reported to be up to hundreds of times faster in certain brain reconstruction tasks.
The system works by combining memory and computation in the same hardware, avoiding the slowdown caused by moving data between separate components. Researchers say this design allows real-time modeling of complex brain structures from incomplete data. They believe the breakthrough could support future applications such as brain imaging, disease diagnosis, and brain-computer interfaces.
