The Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress concluded its 21st session Thursday in Beijing. Lawmakers voted to remove Wang Xiangxi as minister of emergency management, with Xi Jinping signing a presidential order formalizing the decision.
The meeting, presided over by NPC Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji, also approved a deputy qualification report and other personnel-related bills. Lawmakers endorsed in principle the draft work report of the NPC Standing Committee and adopted the proposed agenda and leadership lists for the upcoming fourth session of the 14th NPC.
Zhao said the annual session will review and approve the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) and deliberate several draft laws, including an environmental code and legislation on ethnic unity and national development planning. He called for responsible performance of duties and an efficient, pragmatic session.
