China’s top legislator reiterates commitment to opening up, shared development

China welcomes businesses from all countries to invest and benefit from its high-quality development, top legislator Zhao Leji said at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2026 in Hainan Province.

Zhao, chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, thanked entrepreneurs for their support of China’s reform and opening-up. He emphasized that China aims to safeguard the WTO-centered multilateral trading system and create an open, inclusive, and non-discriminatory environment. He highlighted the strength and resilience of the Chinese economy, saying it can continue driving global growth.

Entrepreneurs expressed strong support for economic globalization and confidence in China’s development, pledging to focus on the Chinese market for mutually beneficial growth.

Zhao also met separately with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne. With Wong, he stressed strengthening bilateral relations, deepening cooperation in trade, technology, legislation, and people-to-people exchanges. Wong reaffirmed Singapore’s support for the one-China policy and willingness to expand cooperation.

With Wickramaratne, Zhao expressed China’s readiness to align its 15th Five-Year Plan with Sri Lanka’s strategies and deepen Belt and Road cooperation. Wickramaratne highlighted Sri Lanka’s adherence to the one-China policy and looked forward to enhancing parliamentary exchanges to strengthen bilateral friendship.
