China’s top legislator Zhao Leji met with a visiting delegation of U.S. senators in Beijing on Wednesday, urging the United States to maintain an objective and rational view of China’s development. Zhao noted that stable bilateral relations are in the common interest of both nations and align with global expectations. He expressed China’s readiness to strengthen communication and expand practical cooperation while properly managing existing differences.
During the talks, Zhao emphasized that the Taiwan question remains the most sensitive and important issue in China-U.S. relations, calling on the U.S. to strictly adhere to the one-China principle. He also highlighted the importance of legislative diplomacy, stating that the National People’s Congress is eager to increase mutual visits and dialogue with the U.S. Congress. Zhao concluded by welcoming more U.S. lawmakers to visit China to foster deeper engagement and understanding.
