China’s box office revenue for the 2026 Spring Festival holiday has reached 1.1 billion yuan (about $159 million), according to the China Film Administration, reflecting strong holiday consumer spending. Authorities recently launched a nationwide film promotion campaign that will distribute at least 1.2 billion yuan in movie subsidies throughout the year to boost the industry. This year’s holiday film lineup features a wide range of genres, while an upgraded “cinema plus” model is encouraging audiences to spend beyond theaters through discounts, gifts, and joint promotions with shopping centers and cultural venues. In Liaoning Province, related programs combining films with traditional culture events have increased tourism, including a 40 percent rise in visitors at a local museum. China’s nine-day Spring Festival holiday began this week and runs until February 23.
