China’s NEV industry shifts gears for global growth

Automechanika Shanghai 2025 opened with over 7,000 exhibitors, emphasizing new-energy vehicle (NEV) technologies. The NEV section is 50 percent larger than before, showcasing electrification, smart mobility, and green transportation innovations. More than 2,000 Chinese and international companies are presenting electric-drive systems, hydrogen fuel cells, batteries, charging solutions, and new materials, highlighting a mature and globally competitive supply chain.

Global automakers and suppliers, including firms from Japan and Germany, are expanding in China, while Chinese companies are increasingly going global, setting up production and supply chains abroad in markets like India, Europe, and the U.S. Experts note that China’s EV sector is rapidly innovating and is expected to influence global standards and localized supply chains by 2030.

China’s NEV market remains strong, with 1.7 million vehicles sold in October—over half of all new car sales—cementing the country’s position as the world’s leading NEV market.
