China’s National Day holiday box office passed 800 million yuan, including pre-sales, by the fifth day of the seven-day holiday. A variety of films, including comedies, crime thrillers and family animations, have attracted audiences to cinemas.
The popularity of some films is also encouraging people to visit their filming locations. In Ningxia, the former coal-mining town of Shitanjing has become a tourist attraction after appearing in the film Once Upon a Time in the Middle East. Other filming locations in Guangdong, including Foshan and Jiangmen, have also seen growing interest, showing how movies are helping create new travel destinations during the holiday.
