Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers showcased high-quality designs and competitive prices at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), drawing attention from car enthusiasts. MG Motor introduced the MG Cyberster, an electric two-seat convertible sports roadster, which marked its debut in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Other Chinese automakers like Geely’s Zeekr and Xpeng also unveiled their latest EVs, targeting the Thai market.
The acceptance of EVs among Thai consumers has increased significantly, prompting Chinese companies to view Thailand as a crucial market for expansion. Zeekr, for instance, sees Thailand as a regional headquarters due to the growing demand for EVs in the country and across Southeast Asia. The convenience of the BIMS platform allows exhibitors and customers to engage easily, with Thai consumers expressing excitement about the increasing availability of Chinese EV brands, citing factors such as advanced battery technology and value for money.
Thailand’s ambitions to become a major EV hub in ASEAN align with the influx of Chinese EV brands, with plans to convert a significant portion of annual vehicle production into EVs by 2030.
