China’s August imports jump 28.2%, outpace exports for sixth month

China’s imports grew strongly in August, rising 28.2% from a year earlier, while exports increased 25%. This means China’s import growth has been faster than export growth for six months in a row. Total foreign trade reached about 684 billion US dollars, up 26.3% year on year. Trade with countries in the RCEP group also grew quickly, while exports of integrated circuits more than doubled, helped by strong global demand for AI technology. China says it is continuing to open its market to foreign businesses and wants its large domestic consumer market to play a bigger role in supporting global economic growth. Credit : CGTN
