China’s generative AI race remains intense, with companies rapidly innovating months after DeepSeek’s debut. Beijing-based Zhipu.AI launched GLM-4.5, a powerful AI model with advanced reasoning, coding, and agent capabilities, now leading the Hugging Face open model leaderboard. Alibaba updated its Qwen3 model with improved performance in agent tasks, teasing more major upgrades soon.
Moonshot AI released Kimi K2, an open-access model enabling developers to fine-tune freely, while Tencent unveiled HunyuanWorld-1, capable of generating editable 360° virtual environments.
Eight of the top 10 models on Hugging Face are from China, including entries from Baidu, MiniMax, and DeepSeek. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang praised China’s world-class models for driving global AI progress. China now leads in AI model development, releasing 1,509 of the world’s 3,755 models.
Meanwhile, the Chinese government has proposed forming a global AI cooperation organization to boost international tech collaboration.
