China, Vietnam hold meeting to advance cooperation

The 17th meeting of the China–Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation was held Tuesday in Hanoi. Wang Yi and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son co-chaired the session with officials from both countries attending online and in person.

Wang said strong coordination between ministries and local governments has strengthened overall cooperation. He called on both sides to deepen ties amid global uncertainty by advancing socialist modernization, supporting Global South unity, and promoting regional stability. Priorities include railway links, cooperation in agriculture, energy, finance, key minerals and technology, protection of the multilateral trading system, stronger people-to-people exchanges, better management of differences, maritime cooperation, and early progress on a South China Sea code of conduct.

Son said Vietnam considers relations with China a top foreign policy priority, reaffirms the one-China policy, and opposes Taiwan independence. He added that Vietnam supports the proposed cooperation plans and aims to boost strategic trust, high-level exchanges, party and parliamentary ties, defense and security links, and mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, agriculture, finance, green energy, culture and education, while strengthening multilateral coordination and managing differences.
