China has urged relevant countries to stop politicizing and abusing multilateral arms control mechanisms after the US and other countries criticized recent missile testing in the Pacific.
At a Conference on Disarmament meeting, the countries said the tests lacked advance notification and could increase the risk of miscalculation. The statement was reportedly aimed at China’s submarine-launched ballistic missile test in July.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun rejected the criticism as politically motivated, accusing the countries of hypocrisy and double standards. He called for greater dialogue and cooperation on arms control.
