China unveils carbon peak action plan for 2026-2030

China has unveiled a new action plan to accelerate efforts to reach its carbon emissions peak during the 2026–2030 period. The plan outlines measures to reduce carbon intensity, expand clean energy use, and promote greener industries as part of the country’s long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

Under the plan, China aims to cut carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by 17 percent from 2025 levels by 2030 and increase the share of non-fossil energy consumption to 25 percent. Key areas include optimizing the energy structure, developing low-carbon industries, and encouraging green transportation, including wider adoption of electric vehicles.

The measures are part of China’s broader strategy to support its green transition and meet its climate commitments while balancing economic development with environmental protection
