Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi from September 12 to 13, where he called on BRICS countries to take a leading role in creating a fairer and more equal international order and strengthening cooperation among the Global South.
Xi said BRICS should promote innovation, peace and stability, cultural understanding, and reform of global governance. He also proposed five areas for deeper cooperation, including artificial intelligence, trade and investment, digital industries, smart manufacturing, and science and technology talent development.
BRICS has grown significantly over the past 20 years and now represents nearly half of the world’s population and about 30% of global economic output. Xi said China will work with other members to begin a “third golden decade” of BRICS cooperation when it takes over the presidency and hosts the next summit in 2027.
