China has seen a sharp rise in foreign visitors since introducing a 240-hour visa-free transit policy on December 17, 2024. In the three months to March 17, 2025, 8.885 million foreigners entered the country, a 34.9% increase from the same period in 2024.
Expanding its visa-free policy to 38 countries, China now allows visitors to stay for up to 30 days. Beijing Daxing International Airport alone recorded over 1 million entries this year, with foreign arrivals rising by 67.9%.
Key border hubs like Mohan on the China-Laos border and Harbin Taiping International Airport have improved infrastructure to accommodate the surge. Mohan has welcomed ASEAN tour groups and international students, while Harbin has enhanced its immigration process with fast-track lanes and self-service kiosks to streamline entry procedures.
