The world’s first half marathon featuring humanoid robots will take place on April 13 in Beijing’s Economic-Technological Development Area (“E-town”). Robots and humans will run the same 21.1 km course, but in separate, safely divided lanes. Six robot teams have already completed on-site tests, with robots requiring multiple battery swaps at seven aid stations, similar to Formula 1 pit stops. The event aims to test the robots’ endurance, stability, and real-world performance, offering a rare outdoor trial for machines typically developed indoors. Organizers hope the race will advance the embodied robotics industry.
