China targets 50% non-fossil power generation by 2030

China has unveiled a new development plan for its power sector, aiming to increase the share of electricity generated from non-fossil energy sources to 50% by 2030. The strategy focuses on expanding renewable energy, strengthening power grids, supporting more than 110 million electric vehicles, and improving energy security.

The country also plans to increase hydropower, nuclear power, and other clean energy capacity while improving the efficiency of coal-fired power plants. The move supports China’s broader goals of reaching peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060.
