China on Sunday urged Japan to halt what it called harassment of its military exercises and stop spreading “irresponsible disinformation,” responding to remarks by Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson accused Japan of close reconnaissance and disruptions that threaten maritime and air security, calling Japan’s claims of “radar illumination” false and intended to escalate tensions. China said it has rejected Japan’s protest and lodged counter-protests in both Beijing and Tokyo.
