China on Wednesday strongly condemned the Philippines for actions it said undermine Chinese sovereignty in the South China Sea, vowing to take necessary measures to protect its territorial and maritime rights.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning criticized Manila for illegally renaming islands in the Nansha Qundao (Spratly Islands), asserting that China has indisputable sovereignty over the islands and surrounding waters. Mao said the Philippines’ actions, including delineating the so-called “Kalayaan Island Group” beyond its territory, violate international law and the UN Charter.
