The ninth China-South Asia Expo opened in Kunming, Yunnan Province, on Thursday, aiming to strengthen trade, promote innovation, and deepen regional cooperation under the theme “Solidarity and Coordination for Common Development.” The five-day event features participants from over 70 countries and organizations, with Sri Lanka as this year’s guest of honor.
Exhibitors from across South and Southeast Asia are showcasing traditional goods like tea, handicrafts, and textiles, while also exploring new partnerships through business matchmaking. Many are first-time participants, including small startups from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, eager to tap into the Chinese market.
Alongside traditional products, the expo highlights innovation with zones dedicated to smart manufacturing, digital technology, and green development. Kunming-based Yunnan Tin Group, a global leader in tin and indium, showcased its role in advancing industrial innovation.
Officials and exhibitors from countries like Bangladesh, the Maldives, and Pakistan expressed hopes that the expo will enhance economic ties, attract investment, and boost regional connectivity. With its strategic location, Yunnan Province is positioning itself as a key gateway linking China with South and Southeast Asia, fostering shared growth and development.
