During the Labor Day holiday, Hangzhou deployed 15 AI-powered traffic robots at major intersections and tourist areas to help manage traffic, assist pedestrians, give directions, and monitor violations like helmetless riders or scooters crossing stop lines. Some robots can also perform traffic-control gestures synced with traffic lights. Officials say the robots reduce human officers’ workload by handling repetitive tasks. Similar robot traffic police have also been introduced in places like Kashi and Ordos, reflecting China’s broader push to use AI and robotics in urban management and public services.
