China sees 2.14 bln cross-regional trips during National Day holiday

China recorded an estimated 2.14 billion cross-regional passenger trips during the seven-day National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, averaging 306 million trips a day, according to the Ministry of Transport. Road travel accounted for more than 1.96 billion trips, with private vehicles making up nearly 80%. Travel involving new energy vehicles also increased by 35% compared with the same period last year.

China’s railway system handled 152 million passenger trips during the holiday, with daily traffic exceeding 20 million on six days. Meanwhile, China recorded 682,000 entries by foreign nationals, up 5.4% year on year. Of these, 505,000 entries were made under visa-free policies, marking a 9.2% increase from last year.
