China has accused the European Union of using unlawful extraterritorial jurisdiction in its investigation into Chinese e-commerce company JD.com. The EU launched the investigation over JD.com’s planned takeover of German retailer Ceconomy.
China’s Ministry of Justice said Chinese organizations and individuals should not cooperate with or assist the EU investigation. The ministry said its conclusion came after an investigation under China’s rules against what it considers unlawful foreign jurisdiction. China made a similar complaint earlier this year over an EU investigation into Chinese security company Nuctech.
