China on Monday unveiled a wide-ranging campaign to stimulate consumer spending during the 2026 Spring Festival holiday, as authorities seek to strengthen domestic demand and support economic growth. Jointly released by the Ministry of Commerce and eight other government departments, the measures span dining, accommodation, transportation, tourism, retail and entertainment, and include festive dining promotions, hotel discounts and family packages, subsidies for home appliances and renovation services, expanded transport capacity for the holiday travel rush, and nationwide cultural and tourism consumption events. The plan also features film- and culture-themed travel initiatives, shopping promotions in major commercial districts and tax-refund stores, and discounts for Spring Festival movie screenings. A key focus is the expansion of trade-in programs with higher subsidies to boost physical retail sales, alongside supporting measures such as prize-based receipt schemes, enhanced financial services, cross-industry cooperation and improved consumption services for inbound visitors, aimed at translating policy support into concrete spending growth.
