China on Thursday expressed strong concern over new European Union rules targeting “high-risk suppliers,” calling them discriminatory and politically motivated. The rules would exclude such suppliers from key sectors including energy, transport, and information technology.
China also defended its export controls on dual-use items to Japan, saying the measures follow international law and non-proliferation rules, and that bans on military-related exports are legitimate.
On trade with Canada, China said talks are making progress. Canada will allow an annual quota of 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles at a lower tariff, replacing a previous 100 percent surcharge, while discussions on rapeseed trade will continue through dialogue.
