Chinese authorities announced new measures to improve payment services for international travelers. A pilot program in eight cities will streamline mobile payment codes for businesses, allowing them to accept foreign credit cards. The program affects over 11 million individual businesses, about 9.3% nationwide. The initiative follows increased tourism, with 95 million inbound tourists in the first nine months of 2024, a 55.4% rise. Earlier efforts include promoting mobile payments and mandating major tourist attractions to accept both domestic and foreign bank cards.
