On May 29, China launched its Tianwen-2 probe aboard a Long March 3B rocket, beginning a landmark mission to collect samples from asteroid 2016 HO3 and later explore comet 311P. The probe, carrying 11 scientific instruments, will return asteroid samples to Earth by 2027 before continuing its journey. The mission aims to advance space technologies such as weak-gravity sampling, autonomous navigation, and deep-space orbit transfers, while enhancing scientific understanding of small celestial bodies and the early solar system. It marks a major step in China’s planetary exploration efforts.
