China, Kenya elevate ties as Ruto makes landmark visit

Kenya and China have upgraded their relationship, creating a new partnership called the “China-Kenya Community with a Shared Future for the New Era.” This happened during Kenyan President William Ruto’s first official visit to China from April 22 to 26. He is also the first African leader to visit China since the last major China-Africa meeting.

During the visit, Chinese President Xi Jinping said China wants to work with other countries to solve global problems fairly and support international trade. President Ruto praised China for helping protect the interests of developing countries, especially as Kenya faces new U.S. tariffs on its exports.

Experts say this stronger partnership is very important right now. With less support from Western countries, Kenya and China want to build closer ties focused on trade, infrastructure, and development. Big projects like the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway and Nairobi Expressway have already helped Kenya grow.
