A Chinese robotic dog named Black Panther 2.0 has set a new speed record for machine dogs, reaching 10.3 meters per second—comparable to top human sprinters like Usain Bolt—during a TV broadcast of the World Robot Competition on Sunday.
Developed by Zhejiang University and Hangzhou startup Mirror Me, the 38-kilogram, 0.63-meter-tall quadruped robot surpassed the previous record held by Boston Dynamics’ WildCat. Its peak stride frequency is five steps per second, making it one of the fastest quadruped robots in the world.
The robot’s latest upgrades include integrated carbon fiber legs for improved strength. Although it’s not as fast as animals like cheetahs, its real-world potential includes disaster response and logistics, such as navigating debris after earthquakes. Another robot, XT70, also demonstrated rescue capabilities during the show.
