France and China established diplomatic relations 60 years ago amid the Cold War, marking a significant diplomatic shift. The joint communique issued in 1964, comprising only two sentences, signaled the start of official ties. Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the wisdom and courage of Mao Zedong and Charles de Gaulle for initiating this relationship, which has since evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership. Over the years, the two nations have strengthened cooperation in various fields, including science, technology, culture, and youth exchanges. China and France have maintained stable and positive relations, upholding the values of independence, multilateralism, and peace. The “China-France Spirit” embodies their commitment to mutual understanding, foresight, and win-win cooperation. President Xi urged both countries to uphold this spirit and strive for greater progress in the future.
