Law-enforcement agencies from China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam agreed to strengthen joint action against transnational telecom and online fraud during a meeting Friday in Kunming, Yunnan Province. According to China’s Ministry of Public Security, the six countries discussed deeper cross-border cooperation and signed documents committing to coordinated multinational operations, regular coordination mechanisms, expanded intelligence sharing, and continued repatriation of suspects.
China said recent cooperation with regional partners has already yielded major results. This year, China, Myanmar and Thailand launched a trilateral mechanism targeting fraud networks in Myawaddy, leading to Myanmar repatriating over 5,500 suspects to China. Joint actions with Laos captured more than 600 suspects in the Golden Triangle SEZ, while coordinated operations with Vietnam and Cambodia resulted in the arrest of 149 and 2,141 suspects respectively, all repatriated to China. Chinese authorities say they will continue expanding international collaboration to dismantle fraud hubs across the region.
