On Sunday, China introduced new measures to improve its departure tax refund policy, making it easier for overseas tourists to claim refunds and encouraging more shopping in the country.
The minimum spending requirement for tax refunds has been lowered to 200 yuan (about $27.75) at the same store on the same day. The refund can be processed in different ways, including mobile payments, bank cards, or cash. The maximum amount for cash refunds has been raised to 20,000 yuan.
China will also increase the number of stores where travelers can claim tax refunds, focusing on popular areas like shopping districts, tourist spots, airports, and hotels. These stores will offer more diverse products, including Chinese brands, crafts, and unique cultural items.
Additionally, China has introduced a “refund-upon-purchase” model, which allows travelers to instantly claim tax refunds when buying items, instead of waiting until they leave the country. This change aims to make the shopping experience easier and help boost sales of Chinese goods.
