China’s central government will continue to support urban renewal projects in 2025, focusing on improving urban infrastructure and enhancing residents’ quality of life, according to the Ministry of Finance. Efforts will center on developing a sustainable renewal mechanism and boosting consumption-oriented infrastructure.
Up to 20 large cities, especially mega and super-large cities, and those along key river basins like the Yellow and Pearl Rivers, will be selected to receive financial support. Subsidies will be capped based on location: up to 800 million yuan for eastern cities, 1 billion for central regions, and 1.2 billion for western areas and centrally governed municipalities. Funds will be distributed annually based on project progress.
The subsidies aim to upgrade urban underground pipelines, improve sewage treatment efficiency, and enhance living conditions in aging urban areas over the next three years.
