China observed the 94th anniversary of the September 18 Incident on Thursday at the September 18 Incident Historical Museum in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. The incident in 1931, when Japanese troops staged a railway explosion near Shenyang as a pretext to launch an invasion, marked the beginning of Japan’s 14-year occupation of parts of China.
At 9:18 a.m., sirens sounded across the city. Drivers honked, pedestrians stood still, and ships and trains blew their whistles in a collective tribute to honor history, remember the martyrs, and promote peace.
The ceremony included poetry recitations by student representatives, commemorating heroes of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, such as General Yang Jingyu. Afterwards, attendees from various sectors visited the museum’s exhibitions to reflect on the historical significance of the event.
