China marked the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Thursday with flag-raising ceremonies in Beijing, Hong Kong and Macao. More than 100,000 people gathered at Tiananmen Square for the ceremony, while the National Day holiday from October 1 to 7 has also sparked a major travel rush. Domestic travel is expected to reach about 2.13 billion trips during the holiday, with authorities adding transport capacity and offering tourism events, vouchers and subsidies to encourage spending.
